Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

Friday 5/17/02
Brought my stuff to work, left around 4:30.  Got to the track in time to unpack, do a track walk, and go out for pizza :)  The weather wwas gorgeous, albeit a tad chilly.

Saturday 5/18/02
Woke up at 7, and heard rain.  I decided to go out for practice.. until I put my glasses on and realized it was snowing!  I figured I may as well blow it all off... especially since I didn't want to end up with soaked leathers for the afternoon, and more importantly.. a bike that was in a pile of pieces.  I got another hour of sleep, then trudged out of the nice warm van to the coffee shack.. then to the bike to put on the rain tires.

GTL

First Junior race!
It was cold and raining.  42 degrees F, to be exact.  Tires just aren't made to deal with these temperatures, rain compound or not.  Only about half the grid showed up.. which meant a guaranteed better finish.  I got a pretty bad start, and the track was really slippery, so I took my time.  For some reason I had big trouble sin T3.. I kept running wide..  I didn't feel like I could get the bike turned.. we weren't in harmony <G>.  I ended up making a couple passes, and finished 9th out of 11.   It was worth 4 points, even though I got lapped 3 times by the Expert GTL leaders : ))

GP Singles

The track was drying out a bit at this point, as the rain had been reduced to a drizzle.  I was feeling ultra confident.. and put in some respectable lap times, given the conditions..  I got a terrible start.. absolutely pathetic.  There were 5 people in Jr, and I was running 5th..  I was pretty sure I could beat one person, but we were running pretty similar speeds, and I wasn't close enough to make a move..  I managed to pass a couple of expert riders, and one of the Jr riders crashed..  I almost lost it coming out of T2..  the nascar oval sealer was pretty slippery, and I almost high-sided on the second to last lap..  I ended up with a 4th place finish worth 9 points.

Lightweight Grand Prix

Another pathetic start.. and no motivation whatsoever.  It had started to rain again, and things were back to being slippery.  I had another pucker moment on the gas coming out of T2, and just took my time.  I managed a 7th place finish, worth another 6 points.

19 points!
