Friday 6/07
Left work at 3:30.. got the track around 6:15. Went through registration, got the
bike teched and got everything unpacked. Took a track walk with Rick and the gang,
then got back and cooked up some burgers.
Saturday 6/08
Got up in plenty of time for practices.. First practice is always miserable... I'm usually
still stiff from just getting up and a little bleary-eyed. I didn't feel so
confident on the bike, but tried to get some work done. I felt really slow. so
slow, in fact, that I didn't even bother to look at my times for fear of disheartening
myself.
GTL
It was about 70 degrees out.. perfect weather to ride in. I got a great start, but managed to get stuck in T1 traffic. I kept up with a pack of riders for a bit, but eventually managed to lose sight of them. I passed a couple people, but nothing too dramatic. I went two laps down to the expert GTL leaders before a red flag on lap 14. I was hoping to get back under the 1:30 mark, but could only bag a 1:31.
GP Singles
I got another great start, but again managed to get bogged in traffic. I really need to work on that. I was feeling really good for this race... and put in some respectable laps.. down to the 1:29's. My goal was to beat one particular individual, which I did until the very end.. I made a few mistakes out of T2 on a couple laps, and he managed to catch up to me enough to make a pass out of T12 on the last lap.. I had to hit the brakes to avoid T-boning him and lost all my drive for the line.. he went by and carried a few people with him.. kind of a bummer for me, but I learned my lesson.. Next time I'll have to put a little more distance between us.
LWGP
For once I didn't have to worry about T1 traffic.. because I got the worst start in history. I was on the second row of the grid.. I bogged the engine for a couple seconds and recovered only after the entire field when whizzing by me. I managed to catch up to a few people, and got a best lap of 1:28.8.
I spent Sat eve working on the bike. I put in a new clutch hub, filed down the basket and checked the plates. Thanks to Rick Moreau for helping me out.
Sunday 6/09
Woke up to rain. I decided not to go out and practice, since I had no races. The sun eventually came out for the afternoon races. I hung around all day and played pit bitch and got a tan <G>. It was a nice relaxing day, good weather.
