Happy Labor Day!  After a full weekend of LRRS fun, it was time for the USCRA 125 moderns.  I woke up at the track to the sound of rain gently falling on the roof of the van.  I got up, teched my bike and went to breakfast.  Went to a riders meeting, where there were raffle tickets for a 50cc gp bike being sold.  I bought 3 of them, but Hardy Kornfeld won it.  Bastard <G>.  I went out for the last slow practice to get warmed up before the race, and the rear tire was losing traction coming out of T3.  I came back in the pits and noticed that the tire was cold shearing all the melted rubber (from the endurance race) off.  I made a jetting change and put the warmers on for the 12 lap race.

The weather had cleared and we had a dry track.  I got a pretty bad start, but that's ok.  The vintage guys went into T1 in front of me, and I managed to pick them off.. plus a couple 125 guys.  I was running 8th place (out of 10) and was going faster than the 6th and 7th place runners.. I was catching them when I completely blew my shifts going tinto T11.  I barely managed to stay on the track... the bike didn't want to turn with no power, and I couldn't get my toe in under the shifter to do the downshifts.   It also allowed the guy behind me to catch up some.  On the next lap he passed me in T6.. I stuck with him, but missed a shift out of T12.  I caught up with him and couldn't safely get him on the brakes in T3, so I showed him a wheel going over the hill into the bowl.  I stayed with him and got a better drive out of T12 and passed him on the straight.  I kept up the pace and held onto 8th place.  It was a really fun race.

I ended up hanging out most of the day and went to dinner with Bob Perkins and Mike Nixsa.  I stayed at the track since I was teaching a Riverside Motorsports trackday on Tues.
